Kerid Crater Hot Springs Tour: Lagoon Combinations

A Kerid Crater hot springs tour pairs the crater visit with a separate bathing stop. Choose the lagoon first, then compare transport, duration and admission.

Choosing a Kerid Crater hot springs tour

A Kerid Crater hot springs tour combines walking beside a volcanic crater with bathing at a separate destination. Kerið itself is a crater lake in Grímsnes, not a warm bathing pool. The choice here is between excursions that visit Kerið and include Secret Lagoon, Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon. Decide which bathing experience belongs in your day before comparing the transport arrangements.

Secret Lagoon is in Flúðir and offers a clearly defined bath visit with showers and lockers. The Blue Lagoon combination has Comfort or Premium admission according to the selected option. The Sky Lagoon combination includes that lagoon's admission, towel rental and Kerið entry. These differences matter more than treating every trip with a lagoon stop as the same package. For a day focused on the crater without bathing, see the Kerið day trips.

Compare the three bathing combinations

The Secret Lagoon excursion lasts about 10 hours. It starts at Tour Bus Stop 12, Höfðatorg on Þórunnartún in Reykjavík, and includes bus travel, a guided tour and Secret Lagoon. This suits visitors who want an organised excursion and a specific meeting point. Keep the full excursion duration separate from the time spent in the water: the day also contains travel and sightseeing.

The Blue Lagoon combination lasts about 11 hours and includes collection and return at a hotel or designated meeting point within Reykjavík. Transport is in an air-conditioned vehicle with Wi-Fi. Blue Lagoon admission is Comfort or Premium depending on the option. Kerið is a stop on this excursion; compare the selected package's admission details rather than using the bathing ticket as a guide to every other entrance.

The Sky Lagoon combination lasts about 10 hours. It includes pickup and drop-off within Reykjavík, an English-guided minibus excursion, entry to Kerið and admission to Sky Lagoon. Towel rental, Wi-Fi and USB chargers are also included. It is a useful choice when explicitly included crater admission and a towel are priorities. These are shared excursions; travellers seeking an exclusive vehicle can instead explore private Kerið tours.

Secret Lagoon opening hours and reservations

Secret Lagoon opens from 10:00 to 20:00 between June and September, and from 10:00 to 19:00 between October and May. On 24 and 31 December the hours are 10:00 to 18:00. Those hours belong to the bath in Flúðir, not to Kerið. An organised excursion has its own schedule within the day, so the lagoon's closing time is not the time your return journey ends.

Advance reservation is strongly recommended for an independent bath visit, because space without a booking is not guaranteed. The published adult admission is 4,500 ISK from age 15, as checked in November 2026. This standalone price is useful for independent planning; it is separate from the price of a bus excursion with lagoon access included. Select the children's category for the intended date when arranging a family visit.

Bath facilities, equipment and family rules

Secret Lagoon admission covers use of the lagoon, showers and a locker. Towel hire and swimwear hire each cost 1,200 ISK in the November 2026 price information. Food and drinks cost extra. Bringing your own bathing kit keeps those choices simple, while walking shoes and weatherproof clothing remain necessary for the separate crater stop. Pack the bathing items where you can reach them without unpacking everything used during the drive.

Shower without swimwear before entering Secret Lagoon. Running, jumping and diving are not allowed. Children need supervision, and children up to and including age 8 must wear armbands under the bath's rules. Nearby active geothermal ground is a hazard rather than an extension of the bathing area. Keep the bath visit within its marked visitor areas and leave time for changing as well as soaking.

Natural river or thermal bath?

A walk to the warm river in Reykjadalur is a different kind of outing. The popular route above Hveragerði is about 3.5 km each way, so it needs walking time, suitable equipment and attention to possible trail closures. Choose the river for a hiking day and the lagoon combination when the bath itself is the planned stop. Neither choice turns the lake at Kerið into a geothermal swimming destination.

For the crater part, use the entry and walking-path guide to distinguish the rim walk from the descent towards the lake. The daylight and weather guide helps with clothing and winter planning. Keep both parts of the excursion in mind: being comfortable at a warm bath does not remove the need to prepare for an exposed outdoor sightseeing stop.

Questions about Kerið and lagoon combinations

Can I bathe in a hot pool at Kerið?

The bathing stop is at a separate lagoon. Visit Kerið for its crater and lake views, then use the bath included in your selected excursion.

Which combination expressly includes Kerið admission?

The Sky Lagoon minibus combination includes both Kerið entry and Sky Lagoon admission, as well as towel rental and Reykjavík pickup and drop-off.

What should I bring for Secret Lagoon?

Bring swimwear and a towel, or budget for the separate hire charges. Also bring suitable shoes and windproof, waterproof clothing for the crater visit.
